Dream Of Alligators

Background Information

The dream has been under a lot of stress lately.

The Dream

“I had one of those “so real” dreams…I am a woman, however, in the dream I was a boy, living down south…we were doing what boys do, exploring, and probably went a little to far…
all of a sudden, this huge alligator appeared….we tried to run but the gator was closer to my friend…he had blond hair, jeans and a red shirt…I turned and saw my friend in the alligators mouth…he was head first into his mouth, with his sneakers sticking out of the front of the alligators mouth, and was ready to swallow my friend whole. I woke up frantic, got up and smoked a cigarette….took me a while to get back to sleep, really shook me up.”

The Interpretation

To see an alligator in your dream symbolizes your sense of danger about a situation.  If you see anyone being eating by an alligator it may reflect your hopes, wishes, or confidence being “eaten up” by whatever it is that you feel is dangerous to your personal or professional life.

Dreamed Of Dialling The Wrong Number Over And Over Again

The Dream

“I’m usually in some kind of situation of panic, an emergency or something where I urgently need to use the phone….but every time I try and dial the number, I get it wrong….and I try over and over again, still putting in the wrong numbers.”

The Interpretation

Making phone calls in dreams symbolizes your attempt to access certain feelings, resources, or experiences. If you can’t get through this represents your feelings of being powerless to force an urgent need for change or to feel the way you want to in any given situation.  You can’t stop a problem or situation from embarrassing you or scaring you.  The wrong numbers are your inability to make the right choices, get the help you need, or to experience what it is you want.  You may have an overwhelming sense of not being good enough to stop something or react to a problem.

Calling 911 or for help in an emergency points to a waking life situation that you can’t stand or that you feel is intolerable.  No one helping reflects your feelings of powerlessness to end this problem.  You may have jealousy or fear that can’t find a healthy way to alleviate.

Dreamed Of Fearing Of Spiders

The Dream

“I keep having the same dream where there are these massive spiders chasing me, then i fall & they crawl all over me & eat me. I have this dream almost everynight….”

The Interpretation

The spiders reflect feelings of being trapped.  A situation or problem in your life feels impossible to escape.  The spiders chasing you symbolizes your inability to confront these issues or to stand up to fears.  If these nightmares are reoccurring then it’s a sign that you need to try to believe in yourself more or find support from other people by opening discussing your problems.

Dreamed Of A Shark In The Water

The Dream

“I had this dream when i was about 5-8 years old. I was in a boat it seemed like a speedboat. It went very fast. When i looked out it wasn’t in the open waters i could see in the distance walls with a roof on it. It seemed i was in a humongous dome. I was zooming across the water being pursed by a shark. There were bumps along the surface of the water that hindered my escape from the sharks pursuit. i would get further away and then a bump that the boat would force its way over as the shark got closer because of the bumps slowing me down.”

The Interpretation

To dream of sharks pursuing you represents terrifying vulnerabilities that make you feel like you can’t do anything except wait for some very negative event to slowly overtake you. A sense of waiting for your own impending failure or that a problem will take everything from you.

Sharks are symbols that appear when people are having very difficult life situations where they fear an uncertain future. Example situations would be when someone feels like they are going to lose everything they have, people who are considering suicide, or even a person who has been proposed to and fears it will destroy the relationship’s future .

The speedboat symbolizes your ability to make quick decisions as you breeze through an uncertain or negative situation.

The dream seems to reflect your attempt to escape or remove yourself from a problem situation in a hurry and that certain setbacks are putting you are risk.

Dreaming Of Getting Married To An Unwanted Person

The Dream

“In the dream I just saw i was getting married with an old man i disliked. I was wearing a white dress and the priest said u are married, then i realized it was a mistake, i didn’t want to be in that situation.. I felt trapped. In the dream I thought, it can’t be happening! I need to be single because I want to travel. I also thought I can not have sex with such and old and ugly man. Then some other things happened in the dream which I don’t remember and then I saw the person I got married to, was my brother, but he didn’t look old then, it was very awkward, then later I was with another man, a man that I actually liked, in general I felt very bad during the dream and when I woke up I felt released…”

The Interpretation

Getting married in a dream usually symbolizes a sense of permanence with a situation or some aspect of your personality.  You are symbolically having certain thoughts or experiences so much that you are “married” to them.

The man you marry is old ugly to symbolize how undesirable and uninteresting this permanent situation in your life is.   It may point to a permanent sense of having to be too responsible with a situation your life, always taking a backstage to someone else’s fun, or doing something all the time that leaves you feeling unhappy.  You feel stuck with something you don’t like.

When you marry someone you can’t stand or find very ugly in a dream it’s a sign that you need speak up to someone that you feel is forcing something on you or avoid giving up trying to find a solution to a problem.  Don’t take life the way it is.  If something makes you unhappy then tell yourself that it’s OK to look for a solution that does make you happy.

Why Are My Dreams So Violent?

Question

“So I’m new here and I’m trying to learn how to lucid dream. I’ve been starting to record my dreams, but have noticed a disturbing pattern: many of my dreams have to do with me being either the victim of or doer of violent acts. For example, I’ve dreamt about me killing my sister (I don’t even have a sister), me getting shot, and just last night I had a long dream about fighting soldiers (and in the process being held at gunpoint, jumping off a building and falling down through trees, and seeing a tennis player getting her arms and legs sliced). These aren’t nightmares (of course I often feel fear in them, but they’re not terrifying; the violence just is what I need to do to survive), but it’s still disturbing when I think about the fact that I’m having that type of dream. Is there some kind of hidden meaning to this?
Thanks.”

Answer

Dreams are symbolic messages that reflect your current mental or emotional state. Dream violence reflects inner conflict with certain areas in your life or with your own personality.  You feel up against something or that a pressing challenge is in your face.  It may also reflect your attempt to overcome something or improve difficult flaws within yourself.

If you are killing people in a dream it may be a positive sign that you are facing problems.  Siblings often reflect competitive aspects of our lives or our personality.  If you kill a sister you don’t really have it may be a sign that you have overcome your own tendency to hold yourself back.  Being shot in a dream reflects emotional wounding by someone else’s decisions or your own mistakes.

If surviving seems to be the main theme of all these violent dreams it’s probably a sign that  you are desperate to avoid failure or an unpleasant change.

Learning To Studying Dream Interpretation

Question

“Hi Everyone,  I was thinking of taking a dream interpretation class and came across the Zolar’s Dream Dictionary. Has anyone used it? And if so, was it accurate or useful to you?

Thanks.

Answer

If you want to really learn about dream interpretation then I suggest you look into the work of Gillian Holloway as the foundation of your studies.  Her work is based on the study of a database of nearly 30,000 dreams.  Her book the “The Complete Dream Book” is the most intelligent study of dreaming that you will come across.

I would also advise you to have absolutely no trust in any one dream dictionary (Except ours, wink wink). Use as many sources as possible and gather up every alternative perspective that you can before coming to a conclusion about a symbol’s meaning.  I personally have 12 dream dictionaries that I flip through for alternative opinions, and a lot of the time even this isn’t helpful.  You want as many perspectives as you can get so that you can develop your own dream dictionary.

Finally, the most important thing you can do in you attempt to learning about dream interpretation is to talk to people about their waking lives.  See what’s been on their minds the most around the time of the dreams.  Try to see how the dream symbolism is mirroring their waking life emotional state.

Dreamed Of Right Eye Being Blue

The Dream

“I dreamed that I was looking at myself in the mirror. My face was more beautiful than I remember it being. My face had just the right shape, a great complexion, and I looked more youthful than I think I did at 18. My eyes were bright, happy and healthy looking but my right eye was blue. I have brown eyes. What does that mean?”

The Interpretation

The dream is actually a symbolic message about you beginning to see yourself becoming more positive, and having a more positive outlook on life with more positive choices.

The mirror is symbolic of self-reflection or experiencing yourself in waking life.  How you are seeing yourself.

The eye symbolizes your outlook on life. How you see the world, and how you feel about yourself and other people. The colour blue symbolizes positivity.  A blue eye is then a positive outlook.

Your face in a dream symbolizes your personality. A nicer better looking face means you are noticing yourself having a nicer or more positive personality. Better choices, feeling luckier, or just not thinking about people or life in the negative way that you were previously.  You may be liking yourself more or liking changes you have made to yourself.

Dreamed Of Needing A Wheelchair

The Dream

“I have this reoccurring dream .. at least weekly, that at the age of 30 I lose my ability to walk… That my joints end up being so bad that I’m weak and powerless… I see my family, a wife and children, and the house and everything i have ever wanted, but, i can’t walk….”

The Interpretation

The wheelchair symbolizes total dependency on something in order to function.  The dream sounds like you are anticipating embarrassment after achieving a goal you have been waiting for.  It may also reflect feeling that as soon as you reach success you’ll be unable to fully enjoy it.
