Dream Of Giant Alligator Eating My Friend

The dreamer is a woman and has been under a lot of stress lately.

The Dream

“I dreamed that I was a boy down south exploring nature with my guy friends.  All of a sudden a giant alligator ate my friend.  I saw his shoes outside the alligators mouth with his body completely inside.  The alligator then ate my friend completely and I ran for my life.”

The Interpretation

Alligators in a dream reflect a sense of danger about a situation.  If you see anyone being eating by an alligator it may reflect hopes, situations, or relationships being “eaten up” by something you perceive to be emotionally dangerous.  If you have been under a lot of stress lately then this dream may be a sign that your perception of something being dangerous is preventing you from exploring any new opportunities that you were considering.  You may have be holding yourself back by not confronting your more powerful underlying fears.

Recurring Dreams Of Dialling The Wrong Number Over And Over Again

The Dream

“I’m usually find myself in some kind of panic situation or emergency.  I urgently need to use the phone….but every time I try and dial the number I get it wrong.  I try over and over again, but I always get the wrong number.”

The Interpretation

Making phone calls in dreams symbolizes your attempt to access certain feelings, resources, or experiences. If you can’t get through this represents your feelings of being powerless to force an urgent need for change.  You can’t stop a problem or situation from embarrassing you or scaring you.  The wrong numbers are your inability to make the right choices, get the help you need, or draw on the required resources.  You may have an overwhelming sense of not being good enough to stop something or react to a problem quickly enough.

Calling 911 or for help in an emergency points to a waking life situation that you can’t stand or that you feel is intolerable.  No one helping reflects your feelings of powerlessness to end this problem.  You may have jealousy or fear for which you can’t find a healthy way to alleviate.  The dream may be a sign that you need to open up about your problems to friends or family.  It may also be a sign that you need to remove yourself from unhealthy relationships that prevent you from feeling the way you really want to.

Recurring Nightmares Of Giant Spiders Eating Me

The Dream

“I keep having recurring nightmares about massive spiders chasing me.  I fall down and they crawl all over me and eat me.”

The Interpretation

The spiders reflect feelings of being trapped.  A situation or problem in your life feels impossible to escape.  The spiders chasing you symbolizes your fear of standing up to this situation that leaves you feeling trapped.  If these nightmares are reoccurring then it’s a sign that you need to try to believe in yourself more or find support from other people by opening up and discussing your problems.

Dreamed Of Being In A Speedboat With Sharks Chasing Me

The Dream

” I was in a speedboat.  It went very fast.  I was zooming across the water being pursed by a shark.  There were bumps along the surface of the water that hindered my escape from the sharks pursuit.”

The Interpretation

The speedboat symbolizes your ability to make quick decisions as you breeze through an uncertain or negative situation.  You are trying you hardest to get through a difficult or emotional dangerous situation as quickly as you can.  The sharks pursuing you reflects vulnerabilities to people or problems that you feel have an insatiable appetite for your failure.  An awful all-consuming problem or enemy.  The combination of the sharks and speedboat most likely reflects your desperation to get away from someone or something as quickly as you can because you fear a significant embarrassing loss.  Feeling that something can’t wait for you to give up or become weak.  The speedbumps in the water are probably a reflection of your feelings about unforeseen weaknesses or setbacks that are making this difficult moment feel a lot riskier than you want it to be.

Dreaming Of Getting Married To An Unwanted Person

The Dream

“I dreamed that Ii was getting married to an old man that I didn’t like at all.   I was wearing a white wedding dress.  Out of nowhere the priest said “I now pronounce you man and wife.”  I then realized that it was a mistake and I didn’t want to be in that situation. I felt trapped. In the dream I thought “This can’t be happening, I need to be single because I still want to travel. I also thought how horrible it would be to have sex with such an old and ugly man.   Then the person I got married to changed into my brother which was weird.  Then he changed into a make that I did like.”

The Interpretation

Getting married in a dream usually symbolizes a sense of permanence with a situation or choice.  You are involved with something so much that you are metaphorically “married” to it.  The man you marry is old ugly to symbolize how undesirable and uninteresting this permanent situation or choice you’ve made feels.   It may point to a permanent sense of being stuck with a choice that is too responsible, safe, boring, uninteresting, or an outdated.

When you marry someone you can’t stand or find very ugly in a dream it’s a sign that you need speak up about how unhappy you are with a decision you’ve made or try to speak someone about finding a new solution.  However, in your case the dream appears to symbolically transition away form unhappiness, to simply being uncomfortable, to eventually being happy.  This seems to reflect your initial distaste or feelings of being too serious with a certain choice you’ve made and your slow transition to being happy with that choice.

Why Are My Dreams So Violent?

Question

“I’ve been starting to record my dreams and have noticed that in all my dreams I am either committing violent acts or am the victim of violence.  For example last night I dreamed of killing my sister, getting shot, and fighting soldiers.  Other dreams have had me jump of buildings, seeing people getting sliced with sharp objects.  Is there a hidden meaning to all of this?”

Answer

Dreams are symbolic reflections of your current mental or emotional state. Dream violence reflects inner conflict with certain areas in your life or with your own personality.  You feel up against something or that a pressing challenge is in your face.  It may also reflect your attempt to overcome something or improve difficult flaws within yourself.

If you are killing people in a dream it may be a positive sign that you are facing problems.  Siblings often reflect competitive aspects of our lives or our personality.  If you kill a sister you don’t really have it may be a sign that you have overcome your own tendency to hold yourself back.  Being shot in a dream reflects emotional wounding by someone else’s decisions or your own mistakes.  If surviving seems to be the main theme of all these violent dreams it’s probably a sign that  you are desperate to avoid failure or an unpleasant change.

Need Help Learning To Studying Dream Interpretation

Question

“I was thinking of taking a dream interpretation class and came across the Zolar’s Dream Dictionary. Have you used it? And if so, was it accurate or useful to you?  Thanks.”

Answer

If you want to really learn about dream interpretation then I suggest you look into the work of Gillian Holloway as the foundation of your studies.  Her work is based on the study of a database of nearly 30,000 dreams.  Her book the “The Complete Dream Book” is the most intelligent study of dreaming that you will come across  (Except ours, wink wink).

I would also advise you to have absolutely no trust in any one single dream dictionary . Use as many sources as possible and gather up every alternative perspective that you can before coming to a conclusion about a symbol’s meaning.  I personally have 12 dream dictionaries that I flip through for alternative opinions, and a lot of the time even this isn’t helpful.  You want as many perspectives as you can get so that you can develop your own dream dictionary.

Finally, the most important thing you can do in you attempt to learning about dream interpretation is to talk to people about their waking lives.  See what’s been on their minds the most around the time of the dreams.  Try to see how the dream metaphor symbolism is mirroring their waking life emotional state.

Dreamed Of Right Eye Being Blue

The Dream

“I dreamed that I was looking at myself in the mirror. My face was more beautiful than I remember it being. My face had just the right shape, a great complexion, and I looked more youthful than I think I did at 18. My eyes were bright, happy and healthy looking but my right eye was blue. I have brown eyes. What does that mean?”

The Interpretation

The dream is reflection of your self-image and how you are beginning to see yourself becoming more positive, and having a more positive outlook on life.  The mirror is symbolic of self-reflection or experiencing yourself in waking life.  How you are seeing yourself.  The eye symbolizes your outlook on life. How you see the world, and how you feel about yourself and other people. The color blue symbolizes positivity.  A blue eye is then a positive outlook.

Your face in a dream symbolizes your personality. A nicer better looking face means you are noticing yourself having a nicer or more positive personality. Better choices, feeling luckier, or just not thinking about people or life in the negative way that you were previously.  You may be liking yourself more or liking changes you have made to yourself.

Dreamed Of Needing A Wheelchair

The Dream

“I have a reoccurring dream that at the age of 30 I lose my ability to walk.  My joints end up being so bad that I’m weak and powerless.  I see my family, a wife, children, a house and everything I have ever wanted, but, I can’t walk anymore.”

The Interpretation

The wheelchair symbolizes total dependency on something in order to function.  The dream sounds like you are anticipating failure or dependency after reaching a goal.  It may also reflect feelings that as soon as you reach success you won’t be able to enjoy it.

Dreaming Of The Police

The Dream

“Last night I had a dream that the car I was driving was stolen and the police came to take the car away from me .  What does that mean?”

The Interpretation

Police in dreams symbolize discipline or enforcement of changes to your behavior.  Cars in dreams symbolize your ability to make decisions or the ability to control and direct a situation.  The type of vehicle symbolizes how your decisions are being carried out.  You are driving a stolen car to reflect your motivations that aren’t genuine or accepted by others.  The police show up to stop you possibly to reflect an authority figure, parents, or rules that are forcing you to change course.  The dream may be a sign that you knew what you were doing was wrong and refused to stop until you absolutely had to.
